They changed the history of the Yukon forever

The heart of the world-famous Klondike Gold Rush.  In August of 1896, three Yukon “sourdoughs”, George Carmack, Dawson Charlie, and Skookum Jim found gold in Rabbit Creek, now called Bonanza Creek, and changed the history of the Yukon forever.  Their discovery triggered what was argueably the world’s greatest gold rush stampede as nearly 100,000 souls yearned to strike it rich in the Klondike gold fields.  By 1898, Dawson City was a modern city of nearly 40,000, situated upon a muddy moose pasture Share this article on Twitter

The quiet and serene atmosphere of Gabon West Africa

Fernan Vaz Lagoon is one of the biggest lagoons, typical of the Gabonese coast, with a winding trail and with numerous streams feeding into it and lined with mangroves. The banks and islands are lush with plants, and there are many papyrus. The atmosphere is calm and serene, as we might imagine it to have been a century or two ago. Villages spread out behind the thick screen of trees, cannot be seen easily since they are totally integrated into the natural scene. The only structure that is higher than the high limbs is the bell tower of the St. Anne Mission – an incredible metal church with a noble patina from the workshops of Gustave Eiffel, created during the same year as the Eiffel Tower, and transported by Father Bichet’s mother – the first missionary of St. Anne.

The buildings of the Mission are filled with charm and nostalgia. The environment is one of meditation, rest and memories: an ideal spot for relaxing and forgetting the stress of the modern world Share this article on Twitter
