ALGOTHERAPY The use of seaweed in facials, body wraps, and baths for detoxification and rejuvenation.

AROMATHERAPY The use of flower, fruit and herb oil essences in massages, body wraps, and baths to stimulate the senses and treat physical imbalances.
BINDI Body work that combines exfoliation, herbal treatments, and massage.
BODY POLISH A gentle buffing or massaging of the skin with botanical or marine extracts or salt for exfoliation and smoothness. Similar to a salt glow.
BODY WORK Techniques such as massage and hydrotherapy that retain the body's movements and posture.
BODY WRAP A coating of seaweed or an herbal mixture on the body, which is wrapped in plastic, sheets or blankets to contain heat, eliminate toxins via perspiration.
CATHIODERMIE The use of low-voltage electric stimulation to revitalize and oxygenate the skin, and improve circulation.
DEAD SEA MUD Mineral-rich mud from the Dead Sea used in body wraps and facials.
EFFLEURAGE Massage technique involving quick, long strokes at the beginning and end of a treatment.
ENDERMOLOGIE A form of massage that reduces the appearance of cellulite.
EXFOLIATION The gentle removal of dead skin using salt, suger, crushed grape seeds, crushed pearls, or another agent, followed by moisturizing.
FACIAL The use of creams, mud, seaweed, herbs and other products, electronic stimulation to cleanse, exfoliate, hydrate, moisturize, and increase the circulation in the skin on the face.
FANGO Mineral and nutrient-rich mud from the Italian hot springs at Battaglio. Fangotherapy involves using mud in facials and body wraps for detoxification and improved circulation.
HOT STONE The use of flat, heated basalt stones and cool marble stones in a massage to relax the muscles.
HYDRATION The use of water, steam, saunas, or flotation tanks to restore moisture in the skin.
HYDROTHERAPY Body work in mineral baths. It may include aligning water jets with pressure points and the use of aromatherapy.
LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE A light massage on the face and neck or the entire body to reduce swollen tissue and detoxify the lymphatic system.
MASK A coating of clay, mud, paraffin, or other organic material on the body or face for detoxification, exfoliation, and rejuvenation.
MASSAGE Manipulation of the muscles, connective tissues, and joints to calm, relax, increase circulation and flexibility and release tension.
PARAFANGO A body mask that combines wax and mud to heat, detoxify, and exfoliate the skin.
PARAFFIN WRAP The brushing of wax on the body to cleanse and exfoliate the skin. The wax solidifies and is then washed off.
PLUNGE POOLS Small hot and cold-water pools that are used alternately to enhance circulation. Also known as Roman pools, mineral pools or seawater pools.
SALT GLOW The rubbing of oil and coarse salt in circular strokes over the skin for exfoliation, hydration, and improved circulation.
SAUNA An enclosed sitting area that produces dry heat to induce sweating for detoxification and relaxation.
SPORTS MASSAGE A deep-tissue massage that prevents or relieves tension in muscles that are used for particular activities.
STEAM ROOM An enclosed sitting area that produces wet steam to induce sweating for relaxation and detoxification.
SWEDISH MASSAGE Involves lubricating the skin with oil and gently but firmly manipulating pressure points and muscles to improve circulation, enhance flexibility, and relieve tension.
SWISS SHOWER A strong shower with temperatures that alternate from hot to cold and a spray targeted at pressure points to massage muscles, increase circulation and relieve tension.
THALASSOTHERAPY Any treatment involving the use of mineral rich seawater and marine by-products for healing and rejuvenation.
VICHY SHOWER The use of multiple shower jets to stimulate circulation and rinse the client, who lies on a wet table.
